Gosh Lake from the shore, autumn forest reflected in still dark water

Plan your visit

Season, roads, vehicles and what to bring for Dilijan and Tavush: the practical notes from our guides in one place.

When to go

  • Late spring to early summer: green meadows, wildflowers, sometimes leftover snow on top.
  • Summer: the most reliable season for the tracks; it's cooler on top than in Dilijan.
  • September to early October: autumn colours across the Tavush forests and clear air.
  • Cold season: access depends on snow and track conditions — check before you go.

Mornings are best: a higher chance of clouds below the summit and less risk of afternoon storms in summer.

Know the road

Dimats is reached by an unpaved mountain track; a regular car is not suitable for the last stretch.

Roads and vehicles

Mountain tracks here are unpaved. Distances are one way along published GPX tracks, checked 24 October 2026; they are planned routes, not current conditions.

Before you set out

What to bring

  • A windproof or warm jacket — even in summer, the summit is noticeably colder.
  • A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen — the meadows have no shade.
  • Water and snacks: there are no shops or cafés on the summit.
  • Closed shoes with good grip.
  • A camera or drone — the views are worth it. Fly responsibly and not over people or animals.

Safety

  • Check the forecast: fog and storms move in quickly in the mountains.
  • Don't drive across steep side slopes — especially with passengers and children.
  • Don't go alone in your own vehicle; a local driver or guide is safer.
  • Mobile coverage on top can be patchy — agree on a return time with someone.

What to send with your enquiry

Copy this checklist into your WhatsApp message:

  • Preferred date and number of people; children’s ages, if applicable.
  • Starting point and whether you need pickup.
  • Places you want to visit, available time and anything we should consider.

A message is an enquiry, not a booking. If a partner operator is suggested, agree the final route, price, inclusions, payment and cancellation terms with them before confirming anything.

Ask on WhatsApp

Before you agree a trip

Route
the exact start, summit access, stops and return point.
Transport
the vehicle and who will drive; an ATV trail is not automatically suitable for a jeep.
Schedule
a realistic duration including transfers and stops.
Price
the total, whether it is per person or per group, and any extra costs.

Questions before you travel

Who runs the trip?

Offroad Dilijan is an independent guide. Where a partner operator may suit your plan, we may suggest one; if an operator is suggested, they run the trip and confirm the details with you directly.

Where does a trip start?

Send your starting point on WhatsApp. If an operator is suggested, agree the meeting place and any pickup with them; do not assume a transfer is included.

What does a trip cost?

It depends on the operator, date, group size and route. If an operator is suggested, ask them for the total price, whether it is per person or per group, and any extra costs.

Can children join?

Tell the operator the children’s ages before agreeing anything: route suitability, vehicle limits and child seats must be confirmed for the trip.

What if the weather changes?

Mountain access depends on weather and road conditions. Agree alternatives and cancellation or refund terms before confirming a trip.
